Lapiz Conciente - The Controversial Rapper Bringing Latin Rap to the US

Lapiz Conciente born Avelino Yunior Figueroa in a small hood in the capitol of the Dominican Republic, is a young man from the hood, yet charismatic and humble. Since a very young age he liked Rap, probably due to the fact that he was surrounded by the style of music. He started his career humbly as an underground rapper in 1996, in the Caribbean hood of Los Minas, a place he still calls home and still his voice is beginning to be heard in the entire country and now outside of the Dominican Republic.
His hit song 'Tu No Ere De Na' was the boom of his career. Followed by other songs such as 'La Menore Me Quieren Manguear' and 'Calle Es Calle' which are songs he identifies very much with. His goal is to expand Dominican culture to all of Latin America with his music.
Lapiz writes his own music. The inspiration comes easy for the simple fact that he raps about his life and every day issues that take place in the hood. In his own words, "If it's not real it is not rap."
According to him he was born to rap because everything comes out natural. Lapiz doesn't sit down and write his music. Instead he listens to a beat and freestyles to it and whatever comes out is recorded. And so far we have seen only talent and originality from him.
Soon he will be doing something with Daddy Yankee, Casa de Leones, Polaco, and Calle 13, who he personally is excited.
In true Hip Hop form, Lapiz now has beef with Arcangel and Vakero. When asked about the beef, he states is not even worth talking about it because to him they don't exist.
Besides music, Lapiz had done some acting in independent films and a show called 'Relatos'. In ten years he sees himself further in his career and still living in Los Minas doing something for the generation that's supporting him. He wants to do something positive for the younger generation to encourage and help them stay drug free.
Lapiz simply states he is 'the best thing that happened'. He hopes his fans support him until the end
and his new single 'Porque Tengo Cuarto' so he can keep doing what he loves and give us his all.
