The latest ploy to get music enthusiasts to start buying again comes disguised as the Ringle. Instead of issuing singles, labels will now issue ringles. One ringlet consists of three songs: one popular track aka single, an older track from the artist and a ringtone. The distribution method for the Ringle is a CD with a slip-sleeve cover.
Sony BMG Music and Universal Music Group will release 50 and 20 titles respectively in October and November. The CD's will sell for either $5.98 or $6.98. Distributors will include BestBuy, Wal-Mart, Target and Amazon.
