The South is in the Building. The best performers at the combine happen to be from southern schools and are southern bred, and as a real southern cat, I must ask coincidence? I think not. Running backs, East Carolina's Chris Johnson and Arkansas' Darren McFadden had great combines representing their respective states of Florida and Arkansas to the fullest. Johnson ran the 40-yard-dash in 4.24 seconds a high for running backs, while McFadden cemented his position as arguably the best athlete in the draft with a 4.33 40-yard-dash.
On the defensive side of the ball, my hometown hero, Chris Long had the
best performance by any defensive lineman, looking fluid in all of the
drills and performing very well in the 40-yard-dash, he waited to lift
and will do so at the University of Virginia's pro-day. The son of NFL
Hall of Fame member Howie Long, sure made his legacy proud, supposedly
his brother, Kyle Long, is a potential first-round baseball prospect
coming out of high school this year. What a year for the Long family.
Also, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, cousin of Chargers cornerback
Antonio Cromartie, and a Florida product, from Tennessee State had the
best combine for a defensive back running a 4.33 40-yard-dash and
displaying great quickness and footwork.
