I love me some Mobb Deep. (pause) Seriously they have classics in the bank, no disputing that. In 2009 you hope you find a glimpse of that classic-ness. Just give the people a glimpse and stay true to what they're known for. Nothing more nothing less.
Havoc never has been the most lyrical, although he's had his moments. The beats have always been on point tho. Same holds true for this mixtape. "Smells Like 9/5" knocks like a fiend at a closed crack spot and those stings...if the strings don't have you open I most def feel sorry for your mother. Dead ass honest...Havoc got destroyed by Banks on "Bang Bang". Havoc said "the grass purple-er one L and she is high, like Jet Blue I put it in the air". Hahaha couple of the worst bars I've hear all year. Thank god for Banks cause he owned this shit with that word play. "That's How You Feel" worked for me. That straight head nod music..."or send her ass to Weezy, I ain't trying to knock it up". Havoc with a lil humor in the track I see. "Fly With Me" is the jewel of the mixtape, fuck the bullshit. A lil more up tempo and that "horse ass" line gets me everytime. I dig the direction of "Always Have A Choice". MCs need to preach a lil more in their rhymes. Make cats think outside the box of "guns, money, hoes, tight jeans and bank rolls". Props to Havoc for that one. The sleeper track is most def "Going OT". That hook was proper bars were cool for some shit you can actually bump in your ride.
To be honest the mixtape as a whole was kind of boring and you got the vibe that shit was put together on some quick shit. Havoc giving you like a minute and change of most tracks which works in most cases but if that's all you got the album might not be all that. I'm just staying. You can't flip 8 snippets on the mixtape and then have those 8 snippets make up the bulk of the album. The mixtape should give you a glipse of what's to be on the album, the shit that didn't make the album and some real mixtape music flips over OPB (other peoples beats)...that my friends is an artist mixtape.
