Interviews: September 2007 Archives

I can't see him but I'd imagine David Banner to be kickin' back on a lounge chair, feet thrown up on table just chillin'. He sounds way too cool for a man who is about to tell the greatest story ever told. Too calm for a man that has given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson a run for their money.

And so I dive right in with the obvious question, "Why'd you name your title The Greatest Story Ever Told?" He eagerly answers that, dishing out the not-so-secret secrets of his past. Things like "Homelessness...my background...having no label...making something from nothing" spill from his lips entangled in his Dirty South accent.

Then I ask the other obvious question; one which I actually apologize for its predictability. "I know you're sick of hearing about this," I laugh. "How do you feel about the similiarties between your album title and Saigon's? Has is ever been a concern?"

He reassures me, "Ahhhh! No problem" he says. "Give the man my blessings. It's bullshit! I saw him in person and it was all good. Rap is so full of shit."

So quit speculating about the beef between Saigon and Banner because frankly there isn't any. Sorry you drama-addicted hip hop heads!

The real beef though lies between Banner and those pesky little politicians attacking hip hop and their campaigns to censor it.

"Bullshit!" he says. (That's a recurring theme as you can see.)

"Try censoring all the sex on television shows, censor the beer commercials!" he says. With that I have to agree. "It's all about stopping black men from getting paid."

But David Banner can't be stopped. He's an actor, rapper, producer, and an activist (although he claims he's not). David Banner's story is only getting greater with time.
