What's good ya'll? How you doing? Well last week was very busy for me.
Tuesday-
I had to do a party in L.A. at club Ritual for my boss Lamar Odom's birthday party. First off, here's some advice...if you're flying out of New York and you're bringing your DJ equipment, get to the airport 3 hours early! My flight was scheduled for 4:00, so I arrived at 2:00. When I get to the ticket counter, the customer service lady tells me that I'm going to miss my plane! LOL. I didn't want to argue with her, so I just ran so I could make my fight. When I got to the gate, the flight still didn't leave until 4:00! Like I said New York is the absolute worst city to fly out of.
I landed in L.A. 8:30 and I had to be at the venue at 9:00, because in L.A. parties close down pretty early. They had arranged for a driver to pick me up, but that didn't work out to well because he came in a limo cab and it was way too small for all the people and the equipment that I had with me. So you know me, I had to make a power move and demand a truck. By the time it got there, I didn't even have time to the hotel and change, so I had to get dressed in the car. Superstar status! LOL. I came right into the club arguing with the bouncers, because they wouldn't let me and my peeps in with my equipment. They said I was the only one that was allowed in and of course I was like "Are you kidding?" I had my equipment with me because I don't trust the equipment at these different clubs.
Anyway, when we finally got in the club dammmn they already had someone opening up for me, so I could've actually went to the hotel to freshen up. F--k it I'm hood. LOL. At like 11:00 I got on. The club was packed! Lamar hired Kendra from the Playboy mansion/ MTV Rap Superstar to be the host. She had like 10 security guys. I guess Hugh Hefner keeps his girls secure. LOL. She was dancing all around, doing that same dance she did on the show. LOL. Of course, I killed the party. Trey Songz performed. You can check out the pics on one of those celebrity websites. Ali Vegas performed his new single with Sammie. That was hot. Later on, this Italian dude said "happy birthday" to Lamar and gave him $5,000 to throw out on stage. The night was definitely crazy.
Wednesday
I was in L.A. going to different radio stations getting to know the people out there to promote my album. Later, I had to catch the red eye back to New York to handle my business.
Thursday
I came back to work in the studio on my album. Shout out to Statik. His album is crazy!
Friday
I was making the preparations for the ski trip that I'm throwing in February. Come through it's gonna be in Lancaster PA.

Hey ya'll, sorry to keep you waiting, but I never want to bore you. Sometimes my life can get hectic and I always want to give you a real view inside the life of a superstar DJ. During my hiatus a lot has happened, so let me fill you in. I have officially signed my record deal with Rich Soil Records and the release is set for Spring '08, I also have a new ringtone deal and the first song will be "Pick the Money Up" by Remy Ma and Storm P and my man Big T and I just dropped Nas' official promo mixtape entitled "Greatest Hits." I promise not to go away for so long again and shouts out to all the peeps giving me feedback on my column. I really appreciate all the love.
So, here's what I've been up to for the past week:
Wednesday night/ Thursday-
I was scheduled to go to the DJ Power Summit in Las Vegas, but I wasn't able to make it that day because I had a party to DJ that I'd committed like 5 months ago. So I rocked the party until 4am and bounced so I could make it to JFK, because my label had booked me on a 5:50am flight Thursday morning. Well guess what? I get to the airport and the flight was actually at 5:50am on WEDNESDAY morning! So I basically rushed to the airport for nothing. Damn!
My label, Rich Soil operates on Pacific Time so I couldn't get anyone on the phone to tell them my flight was booked for the wrong day. So, I headed back home. I finally got a call by the Vice President of Rich Soil, Quinn Rhone; she's the daughter of Sylvia Rhone, the President of Universal/ Motown. Quinn tells me that she really needs me out there to do some networking wit the dj's for my album. So, I got on the 3:30pm flight and arrived in Vegas at 8:54pm. I got to the venue just in time to see the Def Jam showcase. It was really good. Freeway performed and there were also a couple of other things going on that night. I also got to check out the sneak preview of "American Gangster." It was cool, but I didn't know the movie was like 2 ½ hours long, so it really took a lot of excitement out of it, but overall it was pretty good. After the movie, I ran into a few of my peers including DJ Drama, DJ Enuff, Big Kap...so on and so on. Man, so many faces from different places, I saw my man A.G. and Remo Da Rapstar. I'm tellin' ya'll Remo is definitely on his grind. I also had my artist Storm P with me, so we basically networked throughout the whole night and afterwards we stopped through the "American Gangster" party at Caesars. It was off the hook and I ended up getting mad drunk! Lol.
Friday-
I woke up with a crazy hangover and a couple of presents in my email inbox... some new Jay-Z joints to be exact. This is some crazy hot music so being the competitor I am, I was tight since I couldn't drop a hot CD this week because I was out west. But, don't worry DJ's I'll see you next week. LOL. But, anyway I was supposed to catch the Lakers preseason game against the Kings, but I couldn't go because my boss Lamar Odom of the L.A. Lakers set up a party for me in L.A. I caught a 40 minute flight and then headed over to the venue. It was cool. I did a quick set at this club....and straight killed it! When we left there me and Storm P met up wit my homegirl, Playboy model and King magazine covergirl Vida Guerra and her friends. I had a 24-hour driver, so I took it to Jerry's Restaurant. I came in at like 5:00am and they had a party going on in my hotel and they were playing CD's. Since I had my equipment, I told them to let me spin for a minute. I set my stuff up and me and my crew had a party in the hotel. I figured hey since I'm in L.A. I might as well do it up!
Saturday-
I had to wake up crazy early to meet up with my lawyer as well as my advertising team. They had me attend a class to show me how to speak in public and front of the cameras. I actually requested it because deejaying can really open the doors to other business ventures like TV, film, etc and I really want to be on top of my game. Later, I met up with Lamar discuss the artists that are going to be on my album, listen to some different beats, and we also listened to the finished Ali Vegas album. I don't want to give up anything, but he has a crazy song with Nas. FIRE!!! After that we went to this sushi place to grab something to eat. I saw Nicole Richie along with a gang of paparazzi. They really go hard on those A-list celebs. I don't know how people can live like that... but I'm ready. LOL. I was invited to the Playboy Mansion, so you know we had to slide through there. WOW!!! I saw Hugh Hefner and I told him that my name is DJ Superstar Jay. He said that he thought it was a cool name. I'm not gonna lie, I was hype! We hopped in the pool and into a cave and the bunnies were showing me and Storm P mad love! We had crazy fun! The night still wasn't over, after that went to Quinn Rhone's birthday party. It was cool getting to meet everyone at the label. We partied it up.
Sunday-
I just relaxed. I met up with Lamar one more time. He wanted me to meet the person who's responsible for getting all of the clearances for my album. We chopped chop it up for a while. He said "damn I heard about you Jay, but I see you're really ready for this." LOL. After that I had to catch my flight back NYC, because I had to get back on these streets and do what I do best as well as DJ a couple of parties.
So I'm signing off until next week. Same Superstar Station...and I've also got to add that I had a total of 4 hours sleep, so right now I'm on fumes. LOL.
Upcoming Releases-
Be on the lookout for my new CD with Peedi Crack as well as the all female CD that I'm working on. I'm also doing CD with legendary mixtape dude Pretty Ugly... and me and my man Big T just dropped the official promo "Greatest Hits" mixtape with Nas....and lastly my upcoming blend CD is guaranteed to be the best joint you've heard in a while
You know there are a few award shows coming up over the next few months so I will definitely be needing your support. Check out www.themixtapeawardsonline.com as well as www.urbanglobaldvdawards.com and let them know that you want to see Superstar Jay on the ballot....Thanks!!!

I'M BACK...YA'LL MISS ME?
I'VE BEEN CRAZY BUSY, BUT THE MIXTAPE DJ YOU LOVE TO HATE IS BACK. WHAT CAN I SAY, THE MUSIC GAME IS DOING WELL RIGHT NOW THANKS TO 50 AND KANYE.
FRIDAY
I HAD A SHOW IN TORONTO WITH AN UP AND COMING RAPPER NAMED J.D. ERA. I DID HIS MIXTAPE RELEASE PARTY. WE DROVE NINE HOURS FROM NYC TO TORONTO. IT WAS COOL UNTIL WE HAD TO CROSS THE BORDER. WE WERE IN IMMIGRATION FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. WE ENDED UP SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS FOR THE POLICE THERE. LOL.
WHEN I FINALLY ARRIVED, I WAS TREATED LIKE A KING. WE STAYED IN ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE HOTELS IN THE CITY. I DID AN INTERVIEW AT FLOW 93.5-FM. IT WAS A COOL. THE TWO RADIO PERSONALITIES WERE GOOD PEOPLE. I GOT BACK THE HOTEL, AND THEY HOOKED US UP WITH UNLIMITED DRINKS! THEY REALLY TREATED US WELL BEFORE WE WENT TO THE CLUB.
WHEN I GOT TO THE VENUE THERE WERE OVER 1,100 PEOPLE THERE. I RIPPED IT! THE CROWD WAS IN TUNE WITH ALL OF THE NEW JOINTS THAT ARE PLAYING HEAVY IN THE STATES. THEY WERE DANCING TO EVERY SONG I PLAYED. THEN, THE KID J.D. ERA PERFORMED, HE DID HIS THING. MY ADVICE TO YOU J.D...THERE'S AN OPEN MARKET OUT THERE, SO YOU BETTER TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!
SATURDAY
WE TRIED TO LEAVE EARLY IN THE MORNING TO HEAD ACROSS THE BORDER TO BUFFALO. YOU KNOW BUFFALO USED TO BE MY TOWN. I WENT TO SCHOOL OUT THERE AT BUFFALO STATE COLLEGE. I ENDED UP DEEJAYING A HOUSE COLLEGE PARTY, IT WAS CRAZY. THEN WE TOOK A TOUR OF ALL THE STORES THAT SUPPORT ME OUT THERE AND CARRY MY MIXTAPES.
SUNDAY
WE RODE BACK HOME TO NYC. I ARRIVED JUST IN TIME TO GO TO MY HOMEBOY CONSEQUENCE'S VIDEO SHOOT ON JAMAICA AVE. MY MAN RIK CORDERO WAS THE DIRECTOR. HE ALSO DID JAY-Z'S BLUE MAGIC TRAILER...HE'S ON HIS WAY. PRODIGY, LARGE PROFESSOR, STORM P AND STATIK SELEKTA WERE ALL THERE.
MONDAY
I WAS IN THE STUDIO WORKING ON MY BLEND CD (SHAMELESS PLUG). LOL. I NEED SOME MORE ACAPELLAS, SO DJ'S HIT ME UP AT SUPERSTAR.J@GMAIL.COM AND EMAIL ME SOME JOINTS.
I'M TRYING TO DO A 5 CD BLEND SERIES.
TUESDAY
I MET WITH BEANIE SIGEL AT RUBY TUESDAY'S. HE SWAS TALKING TO ME ABOUT THE ROC AND HOW DUDES NEED TO BE REAL IN THIS MUSIC INDUSTRY. HE ALSO DID AN INTERVIEW FOR MY MAN AT HOOD AFFAIRS DVD.
THEN, I WENT TO THIS R&B CLUB CALLED SPOTLIGHT TO CHECK OUT TREY SONGS. THE DUDE IS REALLY TALENTED...HANDS DOWN!

MONDAY
HEY MIXTAPE FANS, I FINALLY GOT BACK TO NYC AND BACK TO WORK. MY PEOPLE & I WENT TO THE REMOTE LOUNGE. ALI VEGAS HAD A SHOWCASE WITH CORNERSTONE MARKETING. HE DID A TWO HOUR SET. THAT'S CRAZY FOR AN ARTIST THAT HASN'T EVEN DROPPED HIS ALBUM YET! YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE HOW MANY FANS THIS DUDE HAS. THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO CAME OUT TO SUPPORT. I DID AN OLD SCHOOL DJ SET. PEOPLE WERE DEFINITELY FEELIN THAT.
I WENT TO CLUB SOLE FOR MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL WITH LAMAR ODOM. WE TORE IT DOWN! SHOUT OUT TO SAIGON, JAE MILLS AND TERRENCE FROM 106TH & PARK. THEY WERE ALL IN THE VIP WITH US. WE POPPED WAY TOO MANY BOTTLES THAT NIGHT.
TUESDAY
LAMAR, MY OTHER PARTNER AND I HAD A MTG WITH A LABEL HEAD AT E.M.I. TO DISCUSS A DISTRIBUTION DEAL FOR MY ALBUM. HE BASICALLY OFFERED ME A 50/50 SPLIT. HE EXPLAINED TO ME HOW THIS WOULD BE A BETTER DEAL FOR ME, THAN SIGNING WITH KOCH. BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE LABEL WILL GIVE ME A LUMP SUM UPFRONT, IT IS ONLY AN ADVANCE AND IT HAS TO BE PAID BACK, UNLIKE HIS DEAL WHERE YOU KEEP HALF OF EVERYTHING EARNED. THE NEW RELEASE DATE FOR MY ALBUM IS MARCH 2008.
WEDNESDAY
I WENT TO THE LEGENDARY QUAD STUDIOS WITH ALI VEGAS. THAT'S THE SAME STUDIO WERE TUPAC GOT SHOT (THE FIRST TIME) WHEN HE BLAMED BIGGIE & PUFF. I KNOW I TALK ABOUT VEGAS A LOT, BUT I REALLY RESPECT THE DUDE AND WE'RE LABEL MATES. RIGHT NOW I'M PICKING OUT SONGS THAT ARE GONNA BE ON HIS ALBUM. HE IS DROPPING AN INDEPENDENT RELEASE CALLED "AMERICAN PRINCE."
AFTER THAT, WE LISTENED TO A COUPLE TRACKS. VEGAS AND NAS SHARE THE SAME MANAGER AND HE LET ME LISTEN TO A COUPLE OF TRACKS ON NAS' NEW ALBUM. THEY WERE CRAZY!
THURSDAY
I WENT TO HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM TO CHECK OUT 50 CENT'S FIVE BOROUGH TOUR. THE JOINT WAS CRAZY! 50 BROUGHT JIM JONES OUT AND THE CROWD WENT CRAZY! A LOT OF RAPPERS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE, THAT'S WHY I KEEP MYSELF IN SHAPE, BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SELL YOUR WHOLE PACKAGE TO THE PUBLIC.
FRIDAY
I LISTENED TO A COUPLE NEW LL COOL J TRACKS. HOPEFULLY, WE CAN DO A MIXTAPE TOGETHER.
SATURDAY
I DID A PARTY IN THE BRONX AT A SPOT CALLED SMITTY'S. THERE WERE LIKE 1500-2000 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. YOU KNOW I HAD TO DO THE 50 VS. KANYE THING WITH THE CROWD...AND IT ENDED IN A TIE. IT WAS CRAZY, BUT I'VE GOTTA STOP DJ'ING DRUNK! LOL.
SUNDAY
I DID A PHOTOSHOOT WITH A VERY IMPORTANT DJ FOR A PROMINENT PUBLICATION IN NYC. I HAVE TO KEEP THE DETAILS UNDER WRAPS FOR NOW. THE PHOTOSHOOT WAS REALLY UNCONFORTABLE BECAUSE WE WERE IN A SALT MINE ON TOP OF SOME ROCKS, WITH DJ CRATES AND I MESSED UP MY AIR FORCE ONE'S. I WAS HEATED! IN THE END, IT WORKED OUT WELL THOUGH.
LATER, I WENT THE 50 SHOW'S IN THE BRONX AND QUEENS. IN THE BRONX, HE DID THE HOOK TO "LEAN BACK" AND HAD THE WHOLE CROWD SAYING "F--- (A CERTAIN RAPPER)." THEN HE BROUGHT OUT REMY MA AND THE CROWD LOST IT! AFTER THAT HE DID "EVERYWHERE WE GO" AND SAID "F--- D-BLOCK" AND BROUGHT OUT J. HOOD.
THEN WE WENT TO QUEENS SHOW AND THERE WERE LIKE A MILLION COPS OUTSIDE. IT LOOKED LIKE THE ENTIRE CITY CAME OUT FOR THAT ONE.
MY PICKS FOR THE WEEK
DJ MELLO- I'M ON SOME SHIT
THE NEW ACE THE RICAN MIXTAPE (I HOSTED THIS ONE)
TRUTH DVD-THE G CODE
NEW RELEASES
LOOK OUT FOR MY UPCOMING BLEND TAPE WITH DJ DUKE DIGGLER. HE'S COMING OUT OF RETIREMENT.
ASK SUPERSTAR JAY
Q: JAY, SINCE ALL THE RECENT DRAMA WITH REMY, FOXY, TONY YAYO AND A LAUNDRY LIST OF OTHER RAPPERS, I'M STARTING TO WONDER IF COURT CASES ARE THE NEW PUBLICITY STUNT FOR ARTISTS...WHAT DO YOU THINK?
A: NO. THIS IS REAL LIFE. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT AT THE END OF THE DAY RAPPERS ARE JUST PEOPLE. UNFORTUNATELY, THESE THINGS HAPPEN EVERYDAY, IT'S JUST THAT IT'S NOT AS HEAVILY PUBLICIZED WHEN IT HAPPENS TO ORDINARY PEOPLE. I'M POSITIVE THAT REMY WASN'T THINKING "LET ME SHOOT SOMEONE TO PROMOTE A CD"...THAT'S RIDICULOUS! BESIDES, THAT I BELIEVE SHE'S INNOCENT. THE COST OF A COURT BATTLE AND FIGHTING FOR YOUR FREEDOM IS DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE OF FAME OR PUBLICITY...SO NO, I DON'T BELIEVE ARTISTS CATCH CASES ON PURPOSE.
E-MAIL YOUR QUESTIONS TO ASKSUPERSTARJAY@GMAIL.COM
Monday, Aug 27th-How ya'll doing? I had a very exciting week. First, you can officially call me Miami Jay. LOL. I had to fly back to Miami to DJ a show with Ali Vegas at Mansion. Fabolous and Ne-yo also performed.
We had to leave NYC to meet my boss Lamar Odom of the L.A. Lakers. We left the airport in Teterboro, N.J. on the G4 private jet. I tried to meet my man Cutmaster Cee to film True Story DVD, while I was boarding the plane, just to show dudes what we do. LOL.
But anyway, the flight was cool. I arrived in Miami at around 7:30 and went straight to sound check. Fab was already doing his sound check when we got there. I spoke to him once he was done. I hadn't seen him in a while, since his album listening party. I did my sound check and then hit the mall. It's kinda different shopping with an NBA player.
We got to the club around 1:30 am and me & Ali straight killed it! Fab did his thing. He went through his whole catalog. I never realized he had so many hits. Ne-yo also killed it. The ladies were definitely in the building. Shaq was also there. Shaq told me that he wanted to battle Ali Vegas. That would've been crazy. LOL. But, he was just playing.
Tuesday, Aug 28th-We we to Club Prive. We popped like 30 bottles. That's like the thing to do in Miami. The bottles come with fireworks, so as soon as you order one, everybody in the club turns around and looks to see where it's going.
Wednesday, Aug 29th
I had a couple of meetings with some commercial radio DJ's. I'm basically in the process of sending out everything that I've done during my DJ career, trying to snag a radio deal. So hopefully, the results of those meetings turn out well.
Thursday, Aug 30th
I spent the whole day trying to find a studio to do my latest CD. I finally found one called Circle House. It's like a mansion where every room is a studio. Ali Vegas was in the first room, I was in the second and Omarion was in the third. We finally finished around 4am. It took a really long time because no one at the studio really knew the formula for putting together a mixtape. In the end, it turned out okay. Okay isn't great, but it's better than not coming out at all.
Friday, Aug 31st
I got up early and sent the CD to New York, to get it in the hands of the mixtape fans. Then, I went to the studio to listen to some tracks by some local producers, that I may possibly use on my album.
Saturday, Sept 1st
I went to DJ Khaled's party. He is truly the DJ King of Miami. He came through in a royal blue Phantom. Whoa! It just makes me wanna grind harder!
Sunday, Sept 2nd
DJ Khaled had a another party, so we stopped through. It was crazy. DJ Green Lantern was in the building.
My Picks for the Week
Truth DVD Magazine
Every mixtape that dropped this week. There were so many good joints this week, I can't narrow it down to just a few. Shout out to all my mixtape DJ's.
My New Releases
Make sure to cop that "Heaven Only Knows" Stack Bundles & Jim Jones mixtape, if you haven't already.
Plus, be on the lookout for my next joint "Set it Off...All the Hottest Females in the Industry."
Ask Superstar Jay
Q: Are you currently working with any artists?...and how can I submit some music to you?
-Josh, Riviera Beach, FL
A: I am currently working with a couple of artists. Right now, I am focusing on Rapper/ Actor Storm P. You can send one song via MP3 to asksuperstarjay@gmail.com
Send your questions to asksuperstarjay@gmail.com
SUNDAY
9am-4pm
We started filming "Mind, Muscle and Hustle" an upcoming film starring Storm P and Marlo from The Wire along a few other celebrities that I'll fill you in on in a couple of weeks (so stayed tuned.) We were basically shooting guerilla style, without any permits, running around Queens with fake with guns and props. LOL.
8pm-I went to B.B. Kings for the Underground Music Awards. A ton of different magazines were in the building. I had a hard time getting in. Everybody in the line was claiming to be somebody. And all of the nobodies were getting in, while the somebodies were still standing outside. Anyway, my man Jessie, who was the organizer of the event saw me and came and got me and my people in. Big ups to Jessie and everyone involved in the event.
The show started and Kid Capri received the Legend Award. His speech was from the heart. Everyone was feeling it. Jae Mills received the Freestyle of the Year Award. Then came time for the DJ of the Year category. I actually had the jitters, because three years ago, I lost an award in the very same venue. They ran off the nominees and then...the winner is...and they said my name. I was feeling it! I went up and gave my speech. I let everyone in the audience know that I lost an award in that very same place, 3 years earlier and I didn't get discouraged, I just kept grindin'! Obviously it paid off.
Later that night- My man Tyrese had a party, so I went to check it out. The line outside was crazy, but I had to pull my Superstar Jay card again. LOL. I knew one of the security dudes from the Rucker, so we were good! Man, the ratio of women to men was like Five to One! And the groupies were definitely in the building! Red Café got on stage and gave a hot performance. Everyone thought it was my birthday, (it's actually August 20th) so they kept giving me birthday shouts all night. I got on the turntables, but I was way too tipsy to spin. I talked on the mic for a minute and just told Tyrese to do his thing. I kicked it with Tyrese said he's gonna release another Black Ty album. I volunteered to host it! LOL. Then to Red Café. He's dropping a new album called "The Co-Op" with DJ Envy. This is another example of artists showing DJ's love. You definitely need to cop that! I left the club at 5:00 am...crazy bent!
MONDAY
I spent the majority of the day shooting scenes for the movie with Storm. I cut out early to meet my man Big T at the studio to work on our new Stack Bundles and Jim Jones mixtape. We had to keep going back and forth deciding which key songs to include.
Then, I had to get my itinerary ready for the Magic Show in Las Vegas. I'll be DJ'ing there at the Son of Man Clothing Line booth.
TUESDAY
I went to pick up the "Shesus Khryst" DVD's. We almost didn't make it because of the traffic. I didn't realize how much room they were gonna take up. But, after filling up 3 carloads, we finally got them all in. My crew and I had to hurry up and get them delivered to spots all over the city.
After that, my publicist Brandi kept hitting me with lists of magazines and websites that need copies of the DVD for reviews. So, I had to head to the post office to get them shipped out.
WEDNESDAY
My boss Lamar Odom called me early in the morning to set up a meeting. I got up and got ready. Lamar and I discussed my album "Why Not" which is set to be released later this year on his label Rich-Soil Records. I'll be doing a 26-city college tour between September and November. We were also discussing Lamar Odom Day out in Lincoln Park. Then he took me shopping. That's one of the perks of having an NBA star as a boss. LOL. He copped me like 30 pairs of sneakers...but to my surprise, when I get home I realized that I accidentally grabbed his bags instead of mine and now I'm stuck with 16 pairs of size 15 Nikes! Damn! He's a really busy dude, so I haven't had a chance to catch up with him and switch them out yet.
Then, we met up with my dudes from B-Mack, Rob and Jimmy from Foundation Magazine. The latest issue with DJ Drama on the cover came out really hot! Lamar did an interview with them. We're hoping to get the cover...but we'll have to wait and see.
MY PERSONAL PICKS
This week I'm feeling DJ Lust with the new Bird Gang mixtape.
I also like Antalive's "Formula 50" and DJ Mello's "I'm On My Shit"
MY UPCOMING RELEASES
This week the "Shesus Khryst" DVD/Mixtape is on sale! Cop that! Also, be on the lookout for Superstar Jay & Big T Present Stack Bundles and Jim Jones "Heaven Only Knows" as well as Superstar Jay "7 Day Theory"
ASK SUPERSTAR JAY
Q: Yo, Jay I'm interested in being a mixtape deejay. What advice can you give me as far as trying to get on?
-John, White Plains, NY
A: Practice, practice, practice. Besides that, study your music...all kinds of music. Prepare yourself for becoming an all around DJ. Don't just download songs. Get your blending and scratching skills up and besides that just try to network, show your face and get on the tables as much as possible. It's important to be seen. You definitely want your name to become recognizable.
Got a question for Jay? Email him at asksuperstarjay@gmail.com
Friday, Aug 17th
I dropped 2 CD's and a DVD this week. As you know, the Shesus Khryst mixtape and DVD came out on Wednesday, so I'm still pushing that as well as "The 7 Day Theory...I Drop Every Week." Or at least I try my best. LOL. As far as the Shesus Khryst project, I never thought that a female artist would receive so much flack over a mixtape. The streets are really feeling it though. We sold of out every copy of the DVD, so we're really happy about that.
Saturday, Aug 18th
I met with Swizz Beatz. We were supposed to do a mixtape together before his album dropped, but we weren't able to get it done because his schedule is really hectic right now. He was promoting his album in the States as well as oversees. We will probably be doing a few show dates together, so be on the lookout for more info.
Sunday, Aug 19th
I flew to Miami to relax and hit up a couple of clubs. I went to check out my man Philly while I was there. He owns one of the biggest hip hop shops down there. Then we went over to my boss Lamar Odom's house. He has a 15-room mansion. It's crazy! He took us to producer Scott Storch's crib. I thought Lamar's house was big...until I saw his! Scott has a mansion the size of a city block! Man, it just reminds me to keep grindin'. Scott is going to be producing a couple of tracks on Ali Vegas' album. Hopefully, I can get him to do some work on my album, if my budget is right. Later, we went to the club to check out the party scene. Miami is crazy, because there are so many different types of music being played own there.
Monday, Aug 20th
It's my birthday! Swizz was supposed to fly down to Miami for his album release party at Prive Nightclub, but he called at the last minute to say that he wouldn't be able to make it. He was losing his voice from doing 4 shows in a row and he had an important radio interview the next morning. Now that's the life of a celebrity! It turned out to be a good party. DJ Nore held it down and showed us mad love.
Tuesday, Aug 21st
I was hanging with my labelmate Ali Vegas and we went to meet with producers Cool and Dre. The meeting went well and I also talked to them about doing something on my album. Plus, you know Dre rhymes too.
Wednesday Aug 22nd
I read an article about Universal releasing mixtapes. It kind of really bothered me, because they are saying that they don't plan on including any prominent mixtape DJ's in the project. They said that they don't feel like they need to, because the last one sold 6,000 units without the help of a big named deejay. In my opinion, obviously it would make more sense to tie in DJ's who are already respected in the mixtape industry and it's a win-win situation. A good opportunity for the DJ's and the label will move more units.
Thursday Aug 23rd
Vacation's over! I flew back to New York and went straight to the studio. Later that night, I deejayed a party with Remy Ma. There were 3,000 people in the crowd. The hip hop police were in there deep...harassing people. We still killed it though! I did my thing and Remy really did hers! She did some joints off the Shesus Khryst CD and the crowd was really feelin' it. She also went hard with a freestyle dissin' Foxy Brown and Babs from Bad Boy. It was a good night. The hottest joints in the club right now are 50 Cent "I Get Money" and Souljah Boy "Crank Dat." When I played that kids went crazy! It looked like a mosh pit on a rock video.
Friday, Aug 24th
Remy and I had to cancel the in-store autograph signing...again. Unfortunately, the owner of Hall of Fame Music was sick...so stay tuned for the new date and time.
My Picks for the Week
DJ White Owl-Cassidy vs. Storm P...it's crazy!
DJ Robbie Rob-Stunt Magazine...that's 89 tracks full of flava!
DJ Kay Slay-Haters Love Us...it features the Shesus Khryst track produced by my man G. Sparks.
Ask Superstar Jay
Q: Jay, When is your album coming out?
-Roland, Dallas, TX
A: My album will be being released on Rich Soil Records, tentatively in late fall/ early winter, but I'll let everyone know when I have a confirmed date.
Send your questions to asksuperstarjay@gmail.com
What's going on everyone?
Thanks for checkin' in for another peek inside the crazy world of DJ Superstar Jay.
Well this week is a prime example of why they call me the DJ who never sleeps. And as a matter of fact, I am kind of tired...LOL.
This week I've basically been pushing the latest single from my artist Storm P "Pick the Money Up" featuring Remy Ma...this record is definitely a problem! I've been going out every night this week, stopping thru all the hottest clubs, showing my face and getting the record played by some of the most well known club deejays.
I want to share some advice with all of the mixtape deejays out there... get yourself an artist! I don't care what other artists have to say about deejays spinning there own artists, because at the end of the day I don't see those other dudes helping you out or coming back to get you when they blow up. I'll admit that T.I. is probably the exception, because of the love that he's shown DJ Drama.
But getting back to my crazy week... Every night this week we've been hitting like 3 clubs a night! Monday, I was on conference calls with about 40 international DJ's, pushing the single. "Pick the Money Up" is definitely a hot record, but no one will know it unless you make them hear it! That's where I come in...I'm here to make sure that they know about it. My publicist Brandi had me on the phone with these dudes from 3:00 in the afternoon all the way until 11:00 that night, basically saying the same thing over and over. LOL.
After that we went to Club Myst with my dudes DJ Self and DJ Will, they basically control the whole NYC party scene. It was crazy in there! Kinfolk Kia Shine performed. Later I kicked it with him and he told me that he loves my mixtapes and how I'm always talking shit on them! LMAO! Jae Mills and Mysonne both gave great performances. Then came time for Storm P to perform "Pick the Money Up"...I was just looking out into the crowd, watching people's reactions the whole time. People were definitely feeling it, then dudes started throwing money in the air and it turned bananas! Then Uncle Murda came through and ripped it down! I got in the booth and deejayed just for the love of it! Everyone really did their thing that night. The Kanye West "Can't Tell Me Nothing" is definitely a problem! It gets the crowd poppin' every time you play it. The 50 Cent "I Get Money" joint is also a banger! We left the club around 5:00 in the morning.
I got up at 8:00 am to put together a mixtape for this health food store. That's crazy...I never thought I'd be doing that. Time to hit the studio again. I had to listen to some tracks by my 15 year-old producer. He also produced 3 songs on my upcoming album. We finished at around 11:30.
Now, I have to head home and get dressed. I'm supposed to meet up with Swizz Beats and my man Snag at 12:30 at Funkmaster Flex's birthday party where Swizz is performing. Of course the traffic coming into the city was crazy, so I ended up getting there at 1:40. Damn! And they had already shut down the door. Damn! Swizz and Cassidy are in there already, so I try my luck and pulled the Superstar Jay card with the doorman and it worked!...well actually he let me in an hour later. LOL.
We got in just time to get on stage with Swizz. Then, security starting going real hard on letting people on the stage, so I fell back. Swizz performed and killed it! Then Cassidy came out and gave a hell of a performance. It was great to see him in good spirits, despite what he's been through. Then Swizz brought out Drag-On and he killed it too! While I was in the V.I.P. I saw my man DOE, who signed with Timbaland. You probably know him from the Timbaland joint "The Way I Are." I'm proud to see him in the loop again. I also ran into my man Royal Flush. He used to put in work in the rap game back in the day. He was poppin' mad bottles. I didn't want to get drunk, but I was feeling the energy in the air...so well you know...
We bounced with Swizz. He was talking about us doing a mixtape together. We're gonna do it before his album comes out... that's a great look right there! I got home at 6:00 in the morning. People, I've only had total of 3 hours sleep during this whole week! Friday-I was busy preparing my upcoming mixtape "Your Not on My Level." Then I was arguing on the phone with my publicist Brandi, until 2:00 in the morning about next week's issue of the Mixtapekings column. LOL. I've also got the whole world waiting on the "Shesus Khryst" DVD/ Mixtape starring Remy Ma. Be patient...it will be dropping on August 14th.
Saturday morning I did my thing distributing the new mixtape and got back to Queens in time to play in two community basketball games. The second game had 3,000 people in attendance. It was Sean Bell day in Queens, and everyone showed a lot of love. That night, I went out again to kick it with my man DJ Clue about possibly doing a CD. We'll see that works out.

Ask Superstar Jay
Q: Jay, I see that you are on Myspace and Facebook, but a lot of artists and celebs are saying that those sites are really being set up by fans. Are yours legit or what?

Last week was REALLY hectic!...to say the least.
I went to the Pepsi DJ Competition with my man Swizz Beats at S.O.B. hosted by DJ Enuff. I chilled in the V.I.P. with Kanye West. The event was pretty cool. The overall competition was alright, but it could've been better. The DJ's were cool, but hardly any one of them really stuck to the criteria that the judges had layed out. They didn't really encompass all of the aspects of being a good DJ. For the most part they just got the crowd hype and played "I Get Money"...A LOT! Lol.
The highlight of the night was seeing Queen Latifah, Kanye West, Mos Def, Just Blaze, Saigon and Common rockin' the stage! It was crazy to see all of those legends on one stage, showin' mad love! It was a really memorable night!
Monday-Wednesday:
For the majority of the week, I was basically running around tying up lose ends for my basketball tournament "The Q-Borough Classic." Plus making sure the "Shesus Khryst" DVD trailer was ready for release and as well as running the daily operations at my company Oh Baby Ent.
Thursday:
After running some errands, I did some work on the upcoming Storm P mixtape. Later, I went to meet up with my man Hump from Hump Records and he introduced me to Young B (the Chicken Noodle Soup girl), I'm going be dropping a new mixtape for her...strictly for the kids.
At 5 P.M. I went to meet with Sickamore about possibly signing Storm P. He said that he really likes what he's hearing and the meeting went well.
6 P.M. - After wrapping things up with Sickamore, I had to shoot over to the Rucker to catch up with DJ Enuff, I hit him with the new single from Storm P and Remy Ma "Pick the Money Up." He's going to give it a listen and hopefully we can get it added into rotation up at Hot 97.
10 P.M. - I went to the studio to work on my latest mixtape "Guns & Roses" featuring Max B and Byrd Gang.
2 A.M. - Decided to call it a night and headed on home.
Friday:
After spending most of the day in the studio, I had to make some calls and make sure everyone was all set for the game.
1:30 A.M. - Arrive at Club Amazora in Queens for the Lil' Scrappy party.
2:00 A.M - I get on the turntables and the crowd is going crazy!
2:30 A.M - The cops came and shut it down! Just like that! They were trippin because they said the line outside was really chaotic. I was pissed. The club wasn't even that packed yet (people in Queens come out late).
2:40 A.M - A guy in the club says that his people are having a party at another spot and they'll cut me a check to swing by there.
3:00 - 5:30 A.M - I rocked the second club until it closed. Then I headed home to catch a couple of hours of sleep.
7:30 A.M - Rise and shine...time to head over to O'Connor Park to get things set up for the game.
12 Noon - Everything gets underway. The high school was good. The And 1 All Stars vs. Queens game was crazy! Queens came out on top. We also gave a $3,000 Street Sweeper bike to the winner of the freestyle contest.
5 P.M. - Time for the main event...The DJ's vs. Promoters game. The crowd was going crazy! There were over 3,000 people in the park. Everyone showed us a lot of love. A lot of really well known deejays, promoters and street DVD's participated in the game, like DJ Self, Da Union DJ's, Noise Mob DJ's, Wiz Hoffa from Albany, Smack DVD, All Access DVD, Arliss Michael-Real Talk DVD. DJ Clue and Chris Roan also came out, but it was too late to get in the game. The Promoters Team won 79-77 and Storm P was the MVP with 25 points. It was a really good look for Queens. I just really wanted to give back to the community because they've shown me so much support. It was a great day!
2:00 A.M. - Got pulled over on the Midtown Tunnel. The cop tells me that he pulled me over because the license plate cover my Benz jeep is too dark. Then he sees that my man has some open liquor in the car and he keeps me there for an hour, plus I got a WHOLE BUNCH of tickets! Damn!
3:00 A.M - Back to business! I deejayed the Q-Borough Classic Afterparty/ Love Dinero birthday party and Club Pre-Post. It was crazy!
6:00 A.M. - Time to sleep.
New Projects:
This week I'm dropping "Superstar Jay - The Only Name U Can Trust Pt. 2"
My Mixtape Picks:
I'm still bumpin':
DJ Teardrops - "Step Your Blends Up"
The Kanye West - Alter Ego Mixtape is crazy!
I'm also really feelin the 31 Degreez - Weezyaveli joint. People keep saying that Wayne is over-saturating the market, but I disagree. I feel like he's one of the most consistent. He always drops hot material.
In The Works:
I'm working on a new mixtape with Mison (he was on the Violator album)
Ask Superstar Jay:
Q: When is the Shesus Khryst DVD coming out?
A: The DVD is currently at the plant in the process of being duplicated. It will be released in two weeks.
-Sheena, Pittsburgh, PA
Q: How can I get on a Superstar Jay mixtape?
A: Call 347-581-8152

Mixtapes 101 - What it takes to make a mixtape
The process of making a mixtape is actually a lot harder than it looks. Whenever I'm working on a new cd, the majority of my day is spent gathering music. I have to track down artists and talk to record label execs to see what they have and then I spend hours on the computer. I'm usually on there for HOURS! I'm scoping out all the hot websites and even checking out other DJ's sites to see what they're pushing. Sometimes the entire process may take me 12 or 13 hours to complete.
The process of creating a mixtape:
Mixtapes are about 80 minutes long. The key factor for me is to select the best 25 tracks that I possibly can. Lots of mixtape deejays use snippets of songs to try to "cheat" and boost their tracklist.
Getting the mixtape done is usually hectic and it can sometimes come down to the wire. For example, sometimes a record label exec will call me with a hot song and I have to rework the whole mixtape. I'm usually up all night.
My graphic designer lives in Europe, so our schedules never match up. I'm usually on the phone with him at 2 A.M. trying to get my design done.
The aspects of a successful mixtape:
Getting a good collection of music. It depends on what the artists are dropping. Artists really determine the quality of the music, so basically they can make or break mixtapes. If all the well known artists are dropping garbage, that doesn't really leave much to work with. My formula is pretty simple, the mixtape usually starts off with the most well known artists in the beginning, then there's the freestyles, and then I promote new artists towards the end.
The current state of the mixtape industry:
Right now it's more about quantity than quality and I don't respect that! Nowadays, dudes are just downloading music, throwing them on a CD and dropping every 3 days and calling themselves mixtape DJ's. Good music can't come out every 3 days!
The music industry is falling off because these cats are dropping garbage. They are trying to make a quick buck. It's hard to stay competitive when these guys are flooding the market with poor quality mixtapes.
Then, sometimes the artists are another problem. A lot of up and coming artists are getting lazy. Their not as hungry as before and they're not grinding as hard as before. On top of that, now you'll run into new artists who won't even do freestyles. Not for mixtape deejays or even on their own mixtapes. I don't agree with that...that's crazy!
Who's Killin the Mixtape Game Right Now?
50 Cent has a new joint called "I Get Money," that joint is incredible!
Dipset is making a comeback. The new Hell Rell mixtape is crazy!
Max B just came home like 2 days ago. So, the Bird Gang is gonna come hard.
Of course, my man Stack Bundles (R.I.P. Stack) had the hardest grind in the mixtape industry. For real. These new dudes need to follow suit.
Besides mixtapes...the remainder of my day:
Even when I'm not making mixtapes my days can be pretty hectic. Today, I had to meet with some public officials, promoters, rappers and other deejays to get things finalized for The Northside Classic. Which is a non-profit basketball tournament that I'm hosting in Queens on July 28th.
I also just wrapped up shooting the last video for the new mixtape dvd "Shesus Khryst" that I did with Remy Ma. We were in Long Beach and the cops showed up. They were like "We got a call that a woman was strung up on a cross." It was halarious! The shoot turned out really well and the officers were really cool about it.
Plus, I was nominated for DJ of the Year at the 2007 Underground Music Awards, so I've been pushing the fans to go online and vote everyday.
The website address is: www.hiphoppalace.com
Buzzworthy mixtape artists:
Uncle Murda is killing the streets right now!
Top of Da Lyne is hot.
Storm P has the illest flow.
Jo Jo Pellegrino is also on his way back.
My Recommendations:
DJ Teardrops- I Run This Blend Shit and I'm feelin Big Mike and DJ Thoro's new joint.
My new projects:
Of course the "Shesus Khryst" mixtape dvd withwith Remy Ma is up next. Then Storm P's new joint "Mind, Muscle and Hustle" is dropping after that.
Plus, I'm finishing up a new joint called "Rap Formers" with my dude Big T. It's based on the Transformers movie. It'll feature exclusives from Jeezy, 50, Lil Wayne and Jadakiss.
And I'm working on a new R&B mixtape. It's Mary J. Blige vs. R. Kelly. I'm calling it "Respect Tha Throne, The Queen & King of R&B." It's gonna be hot. They started it all, so I gotta pay homage.
